Abrar Ahmed

Abrar is a self-taught artist following in the footsteps of Sadequain and Gulgee. He is a prolific artist who fuses contemporary styles with the romance of classical miniature art. His artworks are multidimensional composing of musical instruments, birds, sinuous female forms, small tiles, vibrant leaves and flowers. The usage of vibrant colors, traditional ethnic patterns and textures bring the paintings to life.

Rind’s artworks illustrate female forms in a classical setting with traditional attire and ornaments. These classic symbols are often paired with Urdu poetry by the great masters Mirza Ghalib, Faiz Ahmed Faiz and Alama Iqbal. Noreen’s artworks are inspired by the Arabic Language. Her “Alif” series artworks highlight the importance of Alif, the first letter of the Arabic alphabet, concept of oneness, the first existence, the beginning of all things and is symbolic of God’s absolute oneness. The shape of Alif resembles the numeral 1 reinforcing the concept of God’s unity and the concept of ‘the one’. Noreen uses letters from the Arabic alphabet in abstract form and each of her series isolates and highlights one particular alphabet.
